LG 12000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Review
The LG Electronics LP1214GXR 115-volt / 12000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with LCD Remote Control is a newer model that is gaining 5-star popularity. However, what should you know about it before buying? And how does it compare to other similarly-rated units in its class? Please keep reading as we take a closer look a the LP1214GXR so you can decide for yourself whether its the right portable AC unit for you.
LG LP1214GXR 12000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner – Key Specifications
Good power for moderate-sized rooms
With 12,000 BTUs of power, the LG LP1214GXR can comfortably cool a room up to 400 square feet in area. As with any portable AC unit, however, the actual coverage area will of course vary. If you have high ceilings or if the room gets direct sunlight, the coverage area can drop significantly.
Very Energy Efficient
The LG LP1214GXR has a very high Energy Efficiency Ratio (“EER”) of 11.2. This EER figure is obtained by dividing BTU by wattage. Higher numbers are better, and any unit with an EER of 10.0 or more is considered very easy on your electric bill.
Single Hose Design
This unit uses a single-hose exhaust. While a dual hose exhaust system is considered to be the most efficient type, all other things being equal, the very high EER of the LG LP1214GXR mitigates the inefficiencies of the single-hose setup greatly. As such, this unit is still very efficient overall and should be relatively inexpensive to run compared to many other 12000 BTU portable air conditioners.
Nice LCD Display & Remote
LG designs some of the nicest and user-friendliest control panels around, and the interface on the LG LP1214GXR does not disappoint. You can adjust fan speeds (all 3 speeds), the 24-hour programmable timer, auto swing louvers, and temperature with easy touch controls. And the full-function remote gives you total control from the comfort of an armchair.
Operating sound is probably the biggest gripe among all others when it comes to portable AC units. That’s why we are happy to inform you that this model produces a mere 55 decibels of sound. This is roughly comparable to human whispering. Consequently, the LG LP1214GXR is a good option for bedrooms and other areas where silence is particularly golden.
As with most portable air conditioners, the LP1214GXR also dehumidifies too. This one has a great 67 pint/day removal capacity that is great for humid environments and combating dank conditions.
Other Notable Features
In addition, the LP1214GXR comes with automatic restart (in the case of power outages), a washable air filter media, and rolling casters for easy room-to-room mobility.
Great User Reviews
This is still a pretty new offering and hasn’t yet been rated on amazon.com at the time of this writing. Nevertheless, other shopping sites are showing great feedback, and the LP1214GXR currently has a 4.2 out of 5.0 stars on the Home Depot website based on 48 reviews.
Price and Value
Currently selling for around $400, the LG Electronics LP1214GXR is reasonably priced for a 12000 BTU air conditioner, particularly for one with such efficiency, a sophisticated control panel and overall nice design. This would be a significantly more expensive model if it were equipped with a dual-exhaust hose.
LG LP1214GXR 1 – Concluding Thoughts
The LG Electronics LP1214GXR 12000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with LCD Remote does just what it’s supposed to, and is very reasonably priced. Add to that a very high efficiency rating, low-noise operation, and a crisp user interface with full-function remote, and you have a good deal of bang for your buck. Just remember that all portable units have their limits, and at 12000 BTUs, this one can handle a room up to 400 square feet in most circumstances. If your room has very high ceilings, gets full sun, or houses lots of strong lights/a cooking area, or is surrounded by other types of heat-generating equipment, the coverage area will drop considerably.
